When that rock & roll is sung by a group of senior citizens, it puts a whole new light on the sound & lyrics.
I first heard Young@Heart singing on YouTube and had to find out more; I watched "Young@Heart" a documentary by Walker George. And I fell in love with their sound: the sound of voices "of a certain age". Harmony and joy coming from voices that otherwise might be heard as monotone, scratchy, nasal or hoarse.
Here, give a listen as the chorus performs Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" in the Hampshire Prison in Massachusetts.
One of my favorites is Fred Knittle. He passed away 4 years ago but his voice lives on. This next video is the chorus with soloist Fred Knittle sings Coldplay's "Fix You". He requires oxygen; the rhythm comes from his oxygen machine.
